About Philippe Handford

Philippe is an award winning designer, including nominated for the Prince Philip Designers Prize in 2000, with products as diverse as cutlery, medical equipment and furniture. Since 2007 he has concentrated on providing more bespoke outdoor designs incorporating natural materials.

Living most of his life in the shadow of Pendle, the hill has always provided a source of physical activity and creative challenges. In 2012 Philippe not only created the popular Pendle Sculpture Trail but installed a huge ‘1612’ on the side of Pendle Hill, marking the 400th anniversary of the Lancashire witches trial. He has since repeated this mammoth task for Oxfam, who were campaigning against ‘Land Grabs’ and for the ‘Tour of Britain’ bike race in 2015.

Philippe lives in Ribble Valley and continues to create exciting sculptural forms inspired by nature through the clever combination of natural materials and metal work. As well as domestic and public commissions for the likes of the National Trust, his natural sculpture work continues to attract interest from abroad and resulted in commissions for clients as far away as Russia and America.
